These supplies are going to help my students be the best they can be. Last year I realized that many of the essential supplies were hard to come by. This year I have created a list of resources that will help us start the year off strong, and continue to get stronger as we go through the school year. I want to make sure that all students are actively participating, and that there are no excuses for students to fall behind. Pens, pencils, and glue are useful every day whether they are used for making graphs, for creating posters, or for taking tests. We also need some technology that I have seen in other classrooms but I currently do not have. A document camera will allow me to model work so EVERY student can easily see, understand, and ask clarifying questions. I also need the power and video cables to hook it up so that I will not block the display on the whiteboard.
We will have an amazing classroom! For example, with the document camera, I will be able to work math problems and do first teaching. After independent work, students will be able to show and explain their work under the new technology. They love math and science! We know that poverty has an impact on learning, and being a teacher is just one of the many factors that impact our students' lives. But teachers must make our classrooms a safe space in which students are nurtured so their strengths and talents can shine.
