As a new teacher, I came into a class with old and outdated books. There are even old books that I cannot use because it is too difficult for my 2nd graders to read. Although the time spent with my students is short for now, I have witnessed their interest in reading. Most of my students don't even want to put down the books after reading time is over. This has shown me that once ignited, my 2nd graders have a powerful passion for reading books that are captivating and appropriate for their reading level. However, it was saddening to see students go back to the same book every time because the options were limited in my class library. I want to give my students a wider variety of reading options that can help fuel their strong desire to read.
