Students need to have the opportunity to navigate and utilize technology in the classroom. Although my school has Chromebooks, they are shared among teachers, so not every student always has access to a Chromebook. As our society continues to evolve, it becomes more dependent on technology. Instead of students mainly viewing technology as a way to socialize, play video games, and listen to music, my goal is to inspire and teach them how to use it as a tool to conduct credible research and interact with it in ways that support their learning not only in English Language Arts but in life by incorporating the two. In addition, since so many applications of all forms, including job and school, are online, students need to understand how to navigate all different types of websites and applications, and just like scrolling through a news feed has become second nature to them, my goal is that they will be able to effectively and efficiently navigate online resources in order to reach their full potential, unlock opportunities, and achieve academic and personal success. Ideally, I would have a class set of Chromebooks, or each student would have his or her own (that is my dream), but even a few could make a difference in making sure all students have access to Chromebooks at any time they may need one. It also instills a greater sense of responsibility and value within them knowing they are deserving of having access to such expensive technology since my school serves very diverse and many low-income students.
