  • Supplies for a Successful School Year!

    Funded Sep 11, 2023

When my career started 41 years ago, I never thought dry-erase markers would be a tool that I could not live without. These markers are used practically everyday and are used to practice skills in language arts and math.

I have taught the students to write their name using white boards. Practicing alphabet writing and number writing is so much less stressful using white boards. If they make a mistake it is so easy to erase and try again. Drawing rectangles, squares, triangles and circles used to bring tears. Now, just erase and try again is our motto.

I am not good at drawing but using YouTube videos and dry erase boards has made my students feel like artists!

    Thank you so very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Farmer

  • Jumping and Juggling!

    Funded Sep 8, 2020

My students are challenging themselves to jump more each day. They do not know how great jump roping is for their cardiovascular system. We will learn more about that system in the next few months.

Many five, six and seven year olds do very few activities that cross the midline. Juggling is difficult at first but they are getting the hang of it. They are constantly crossing the midline. That will help them with reading and writing as well as fitness.

Well rounded children is the goal and you are helping us achieve this goal.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Farmer

  • An Exciting New World!

    Funded Oct 11, 2022

Thank you for your generosity. My students will be so excited to learn about the ways that they can be part of the exciting future. They love to learn and they will now be on the cutting edge. That will add to their confidence about their future in education and the many possibilities open to them.”

  • Let’s Make Music!

    Funded Aug 9, 2020

Music is really helping my students "enjoy" our time together. They love to learn how to play a few songs. They feel so proud!

When we start our morning meeting each day, we play on our recorders together while we wait for our friends to arrive. It is a memory making experience that we have each day.

Beside the joy that we are getting together, I am hoping that the music leads to a better understanding of some math concepts. In a few years, these kindergarten students will learn about fractions. This should help them build some background. Even further into the future, I hope they learn how to play other instruments so that they can be in the marching band or the orchestra at their high school or college.”

  • Splash Fun!

    Funded Aug 12, 2020

Last school school "ended" very abruptly. Luckily, I had already taught my class to play "Fiddlesticks" which is a teacher-made game that is very similar to "Splash". So, when my students got "Splash", they knew just what to do. As you can see, they love it.

Being home for almost six months was hard on the children. "Splash" was the highlight of the basket of supplies we sent home to give them academic options when deciding how to spend their time. Many incoming first-graders came in with many sight words "memorized". The first-grade teachers are very appreciative.”

  • Tangrams at Home

    Funded May 5, 2020

My Kindergarten students, who had their Kindergarten year cut short last spring, have educational materials that they have been able to play with during these long six months that we have been "stuck" in our houses. I'll bet the first grade teachers are happy with the knowledge they can share with her about vertices and sides of different polygons.

On the day that they came by the school to pick up their materials, they and their parents were so happy to have a variety of educational materials to "play" with.

Those students got to get comfortable with polygons. They are now moving ahead with geometry studies with their new teacher. My new group of Kindergarten students could use similar materials.”

  • Making Music Together!

    Funded Aug 19, 2019

It was a magical moment when the musical instruments came out for the first time. I was a little concerned about it being too loud for my neighbor class if we stayed inside. So, our first experience was outside in a big circle, trying out the different instruments. Oh, those faces lit up every time they tried an instrument that made a sweet noise. Since that time, we have pulled them out when talking about parades and marching bands. They would like to have a marching band as a reward for hard work completed.

We will be performing Jingle Bells and Cascabel for our Winter Performance. The triangles will definitely be appropriate for the jingle bells. A father of one of my students is preparing to teach a simple song on the recorders. He is a musician and I am encouraging him to share with the next generation.

I am looking to integrate the instruments with the rhythm of rhyming. I am familiarizing myself with how to use the different instruments in that way. I know that we will be better at math once we start to read notes and count the beats.”

  • We Want to Meet the Animals at the Zoo!

    Funded Jan 17, 2019

My students cannot stop talking about our trip to the Oakland Zoo. We made tee shirts with the animal that they were most excited about seeing. Once we arrived, they got to meet "their" animal. Meeting them was so magical. I tried to give them time to be with them and ask lots of questions. They are now so much more interested in protecting them. They are looking for books to learn more about their favorites. This was truly a trip they will literally remember for the rest of their lives. If Steph Curry was not already the most popular Bay Area personality, he is now in my classroom. They were so excited to write you thank letters.”

  • Roar! Let's Go to the Zoo!

    Funded Mar 28, 2017

You have made a gigantic impact on the lives of my students. Of course, they could not get from one exhibit to the next fast enough. The enormity of the elephants, was followed but the cuteness of the meerkats. Each child tried to be THE student that spied the most meerkats. As we were settling down for our school lunches, they caught a glimpse of the tortoise. He was slow but they watched every step. After lunch, we headed for the bats and the reptile building. The reptiles came in so many different colors. Touching the animals seemed to be the highlight of the day. They gently brushed the sides of the sheep and goats.

They were amazed by all of it. Each student had their own personal special moment.

As I had hoped, upon our return, they wanted to learn even more about the animals we had seen. We researched in a kindergarten kind of way. We found kid-friendly videoclips giving us additional information on the animals that they were particularly interested in.

This experience will stay with them forever!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Farmer

  • Let's Go to the Zoo!

    Funded Mar 30, 2016

Latricia Warren, you have made a positive, memorable educational impact on the lives of 28 kindergarten students from the elementary school that your mom taught at for so many years. Your mom stops by usually once or twice a year to see how we are all doing. They knew that it was YOUR mom and you that sponsored our exciting trip to the zoo.

As you can see in their thank-you notes, the students had a trip that they will remember forever. They experienced the animals up-close and really understand their enormity (giraffes and elephants) and their uniqueness (bats and tiny frogs). They will now know that animals are special and we better take care of them.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Farmer

My students are going to be the first in their families to graduate from high school and college. Their parents struggle to make ends meet. Coming to school and getting an education are very important to these families. I aim to get all of the students and their parents excited about learning new things everyday.
