Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the foundation of the classroom. It is the relationship skills, talking with people in a positive and welcoming way, listening, and caring that helps build and promote the school community.
With the pandemic impacting students' inability to interact with peers and make friends, students have missed opportunities to learn these valuable skills. With the lack of SEL for students over the last two years, it is more important than ever to teach them the proper social skills and guide them to be emotionally stable. For these reasons, I am asking for items on my list to help bridge this SEL gap.
Since I work with students from kinder to fifth grade, I am asking for support in purchasing the read, sort, and match cards for all the grades that I work with. These quick, ready-to-go activities will be perfect to use in small group settings and will also help kids develops skills in self- and social awareness, making responsible decisions, and reading and comprehending grade-appropriate text.
I am also asking for support with items that promote cooperative learning and play like the SEL games and STEM activities. The STEM items will help promote creativity and teach problem solving skills.
The biggest purchase I am asking for is the Oculus VR headset. This will be the ultimate earned reward for students who demonstrate our school's core values of being Respectful, Responsible, and Safe.
I also have selected SEL games to teach kids about their emotions and relationships. When you're promoting emotional growth and awareness, it's important to do so in a way that kids will connect with and enjoy.
I truly appreciate all the help and support!
