My young students are very hands-on learners. Having a tactile object to touch as we do a lesson helps them to better understand what I am trying to teach. Building a neighborhood, city, or environment that we are studying about with pieces that replicate a yurt or skyscraper to a student who has never seen one helps them to comprehend the focus of the lesson without being distracted by the minor details of imagining something they have never seen before. These minor details such as the tactile objects make the lesson more personal and exciting for them.
