My kids cannot yet read on their own. Therefore, it would be a great benefit in their learning if they could listen to books being read to them. There is a lot of research stressing the enormous amount of vocabulary a child acquires from reading books or having books read to them. I want to give my class the chance to successfully acquire more language by using a listening center to hear books read to them. They love to be in the classroom library but are not yet able to read those books. With a listening center, they can both benefit from and enjoy books being read to them.
