Tools to Help Learn
Funded Sep 23, 2024The impact this whiteboard has had on my students learning and my teaching is priceless. Students LOVE writing on whiteboards to begin with, so students are super eager to come to the board to show what they know.
I have utilized this board to build academic vocabulary, connect science and math by creating graphs and develop models. The different colored markers have been incredibly helpful to reach all levels of students because I can color code and trunk work to make it more accessible.
Please know that your donation will be put to use almost everyday in my class and it is greatly appreciated.”

Funded Aug 2, 2023My kids have benefited tremendously from your donation to our classroom.
They enjoy the cross section diagrams of the cells the most. I even have students from other classes ask questions about them.
Small additions like these, the speaker to play music they enjoy, the calculators and more truly enhance my students learning experience.
I look forward to adding more mathematical components to my lessons and giving students the space to make connections between contents in the second half of the school year.
Your contribution allows me to give students a cross curricular view of learning and application- the highest quality learning.”

Funded Jun 26, 2023From the bottom of my heart, I thank you. My students were shocked, curious and a little grossed out when they viewed different organisms under the microscope.
My students would ask things like "So our entire body is made of little things like this?" or, " wow! this looks gross!".
I gave students the opportunity to to explore with the microscope and teach themselves how it worked before giving direct instruction. They drew images of what they saw under the microscope and compared plant and animal cells. Students were asking me if they could skip their next class and stay with me to look at things under the microscope.
We haven't gotten to use the meter sticks yet, but I know they will enjoy the opportunity to collect data and learn in a hands on way- just like with the microscopes.”

Funded Dec 29, 2022THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart! My students absolutely LOVED the first lab we did with the materials you donated to our class - DNA extraction!
They were meticulous and in awe as they extracted the thin, snot like strand of strawberry DNA. This lab is a moment where I felt like the best science teacher ever and I have you to thank.
As we approach the end of the year, we will have the opportunity to conduct a few exploratory labs. This includes making density columns and manipulating different variables to see how the impact the results. Scientists in the making!
These materials will not go to waste and will serve students for many years.
Thank you!”

Building Literacy With Science
Funded Sep 21, 2022THANK YOU! THANK Y
OU! For the books you donated to my classroom. When students saw them sitting on the shelf, they said "we have books for science?" They were shocked to see actual books around science topics they've been learning about.
My students have gained interest around the topics that relate to countries outside of the U.S. The images included in the books get their attention as well. I give students choice as often as possible in class. When it is between reading a text on a worksheet and choosing a science book, they usually pick the book. The pictures and topics keep them interested and it fills my heart with so much joy to see them reading in science.
This is all because of YOU. Thank you!”

Funded Dec 17, 2021The supplies you donated to my class has helped my students remain engaged during class and grasp complex content.
For instance, when my students were learning about the relationship between cellular respiration and photosynthesis, they were able to color code different parts of each process and explain how they are connected. They've also been able to better understand the structure of DNA and enhance their interactive notebooks.
Many middle schoolers still enjoy coloring. So, when they had the opportunity to research and create to celebrate black history month they were all in.
We have already used all of the glue sticks you provided us, but the colored pencils, scissors and highlighters will be put to good use for quite some time.”

Funded Dec 3, 2021I want to thank you from my classroom in DC and the bottom of my heart for choosing to donate a projector to my classroom. My students are able to use it every single day.
Not only do I use it to project virtual lab simulations since students do not have individual computers, I also use it to play music while students work independently. Students enjoy leading the warm up review at the beginning of class and it allows me to set a tone for the remainder of the class period.
My students don't have books, computers or technology of any kind. This projector fosters a level of engagement that truly enhances their learning experience.
Thank you for choosing my project to donate to. It means a lot to my students and me.”

Funded Nov 21, 2021THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Headphones are the gift that keep on giving. Students utilize them for a variety of tasks in class. For instance, a select few students are able to focus better on independent work when listening to music. Having these headphones allows them to do just that. I also have had students work in pairs using a previous donorschoose item, audio splitters. Students can listen from the same device without interrupting other groups.
My students most love using the headphones to just focus on their work and work at their own pace. Many of my students prefer to navigate playlists and/or videos/ interactive labs on their own. When all students have headphones, student engagement typically remains at 100% during class. By the end of class, students better retain and can explain the information they have learned.
Most of my students that struggle with maintaining focus for a period of time past 5 minutes have GREATLY benefitted from the headphones. One of my most challenging students came to me and said "I want to use headphones everyday. I feel like I was a student". THANK YOU DONORS!”

Funded Sep 17, 2019My students have been able to truly collaborate without distractions from other groups because of the technology you ordered. Thank you. They are able to listen to a video at the same time and spread throughout the room to work. This allows them to have the space they need and focus. My kids thrive when they can work together. These devices allow them to do just that.
The first project they did using the adapters and charging ports was an enginnering problem they had to work to solve. They conducted lots of research, including text and videos, about the plastics problem. They were able to learn about how different countries, like Guatemala, have taken steps to reduce the plastics problem and why they felt compelled to do so. Students were able to learn about how powerful large companies like Starbucks and Marriott Hotels are in helping eliminate the plastic straws problem as well. A few young ladies in my class even used their savings to purchase reusable metal straws after seeing a plastic straw pulled from the nostril of a sea turtle.
Empowering the students to research in groups and giving them the tools to do so has opened them to a world of information. I truly believe this unit will remain a highlight of their 8th grade year.”
