As a first-year teacher, I want to create a warm and welcoming environment for students to come to each day. The materials that I have chosen for my project will help me to make my first classroom a place where students feel welcome and ready to learn.
By donating to this project, you will not only be helping to provide supplies for a classroom of students, but you will also be supporting a first-year teacher build up her classroom with items that can be used for years to come. The largest item on my list, the rug, will be placed in the classroom library to create a comfy and cozy place for the first graders to settle in with a good book. Items such as the colored paper and multicultural coloring items will be used for art projects to help decorate our classroom with student work. Student birthday pencils and stickers will help us celebrate each individuals' special day throughout the school year. The nameplates will provide students with a place to call their own at their table group, while the clipboards will be used for more flexible options during work time. As a class, we will use the large post-it anchor charts during math, reading, and science instruction to share our thoughts, ideas, and learning.
I hope that these items will help build a foundation for my students and help us get off to a great year in first grade!
