As the librarian my goal is to inspire students to have a love of books and reading. I truly believe, and research shows, that students get better at reading with practice. We need all of our students simply reading daily, both in our classrooms and at home. Young readers need to practice reading daily and I want to provide texts that will inspire and excite my students to read. Students who are excited about reading, who also have high quality and engaging books at their fingertips daily, will grow and develop as readers.
My request is to be able to update the library collection that we currently have. Our Non-fiction is outdated and would like to get books for our library that are high interest and that have informational text that is in the 21st century. I believe if we can get our library new books it will help motivate our students to read even more. I plan to focus a good portion of the funding on informational texts so our students can read, learn and build background knowledge for content area subjects. Also I would like to order book marks and plastic book bags so students can keep their books safe when taking them home.
Long term- to foster a love of reading within our students
1. to ensure that our students go home nightly with two books to read at their reading level.
2. to increase the volume of reading they are doing.
3. to motivate my students to spend more time at home reading daily.
4. to inspire my students to talk about books with their peers.
