  • Breathe For Change Teacher Training

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

Thank you for your incredible generosity. I feel so grateful to have been given the opportunity to take this teacher training through Breathe For Change. This weekend, we will be meeting for our fifth weekend out of a total of six. I have been looking forward to this weekend's class all week.

These are challenging times in schools, and I truly believe that this course has helped me remain positive and hopeful in the work I'm doing with young students.

My students have enjoyed practicing some of the breathing techniques from the course, such as three collective breaths and flower breathing. We have strengthened our minds and bodies with warrior pose and tree pose. We have reflected on how these mindful practices feel in our bodies, and we have thought about how we can call upon these strategies whenever we need them in the moment. Visualizations and mindful moments focused on self-compassion have allowed us to better extend compassion to others. Gratitude practices have made us grateful for all the wonderful things in our lives and all the wonderful aspects of our school and community.

I can't thank you enough for this opportunity to grow my practice and to share this work with my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ryder

  • Classroom Magazines - Excitement and Engagement With Each Delivery!

    Funded Nov 6, 2019

Thank you for your generous support of our classroom. Shortly after our project was funded, we received our first shipment of StoryWorks from Scholastic. My students' eyes lit up with excitement, and they couldn't wait to open the package of magazines and start reading.

We have used the magazines in several ways, so far. They are great resources to use for small group instruction, partner reading, and more. We read an article about wildfires and worked on our summarizing skills. We used the debate resources to write opinion essays about TikTok, travel sports, and space travel - all exciting, engaging topics for fourth graders!

There are so many fantastic resources, both in the magazine and online, and I know my students will love learning with StoryWorks throughout our year together.

Thank you again for your kindness and generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ryder

For my project, I would like to bring Storyworks Magazine, published by Scholastic, into my classsroom. Storyworks Magazine contains high interest articles and short stories that my former students looked forward to reading and discussing every time a new issue arrived. The nonfiction content by Lauren Tarshis, author of one of our favorite series, "I Survived...", really inspired my former students to read and write more informational texts. This year, I would love to use the magazines in small groups and partnerships to increase discourse, engagement, and excitement about reading. I know my students would love to receive this wonderful magazine in the mail at school! Thank you for helping to bring this amazing resource into our classroom!
