Social Studies and Science Reading Fun and Activities for All!
Funded Aug 23, 2019We are so excited to have our Scholastic Book Clubs reading materials in our classroom! With these engaging and easy to read magazines the students have been introduced to some topics that include: social emotional learning, learning how to share, the parts and insides of apples and pumpkins, fire safety, veterans, and so much more! The students are learning new vocabulary words, how to read pattern books, how to label pictures, counting objects, and creating graphs.
When we begin a lesson, we show the students the video that corresponds with each topic. It is so engaging and the children love it! The kids listen to the magazine read aloud and follow along with their own copy. There is always an activity on the back page which we can do together on the Smartboard. The students really love this interactive part as well! The Science Spin magazines follow the same format. The students got to learn all about nocturnal animals! So cool! Another great feature are the small rebus readers, which are simple pattern books for the children to read. We practice together and then the students have a great colorful reader to keep in their book baggies to read at home with their parents.
All of my students are enjoying these books and they get very excited when we begin a lesson. Parents have online access as well so they can keep the learning and fun going on at home! Thank you again so much for helping my students have such wonderful materials that are engaging and help them learn. We look forward to the new ideas and topics that our students will learn about all year! Again, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Kiela
