The students in my AVID class usually have to move around the school to find room to complete their tutorials. This is a big interruption to their learning and takes away from class time. By providing students whiteboards I will be able to keep the groups in class and minimize class disruptions. The AIVD tutorial process is a way for students to learn through inquiry. The students are in small groups of 5-7. One student with a question about something they have learned in a content class will be the presenter. The other group members ask questions to help the presenter figure out the answer to their question. Sometimes this leads into very interesting discussions which is a great way for students to learn! The students need the white boards because they have a process of writing down the information they are receiving for the group. They are learning note taking strategies. If a students is working on a math problem the group needs to be able to see the work the student is doing and where they are getting stuck. The reason students have to leave class currently and walk to the other end of the school is because I do not have enough white board space for all 4 tutorial groups to work in my room. These portable whiteboards will fix that problem for the students!
