For children with ASD riding a bus to school can create a unique set of challenges associated to sensory and transition. For instance, traffic delays and schedule changes can be too much to handle for a child with transition issues. Other children find certain sensory stimuli such as noise, smells, and lights overwhelming. Riding on a school bus can place some children with ASD on overload, which can result in anxiety and agitation. After a stressful ride our students will greatly benefit from a quiet space for private relaxation so they can center themselves before they can join the rest of their peers in the classroom. The lounger beanbag seats will allow for the students to let go of their body and slump all their weight on it and rest, letting go of the stress and allowing for the mind to relax. The soft floor rocker will provide a meditation space for a child who needs rocking and swaying as a soothing technique. The floor mat will allow the student to sit and wiggle in a sensory-friendly way. Using yoga balls as a chair can also meet sensory needs for other students.
