To encourage and promote literacy in my Spanish classroom, I am working to build a complete classroom library of accessible Spanish readers. I intend to have students read every day in Spanish. This will increase not only their literacy in Spanish but their literacy in other classes and improve their understanding and tolerance of the global society in which we live. The ability to read and to enjoy reading is a skill that all students must-have for success in education. No longer do students just conjugate verbs or memorize vocabulary; we want them to do so much more than that. Having students read fun and engaging books in Spanish will encourage them to read, will inspire them to continue to read, and will promote cross-curricular literacy.
