Many special education students need tangible items so they can truly master and gain understanding of the required materials. Often, these manipulatives are generic and choices are limited. This project will help my students to design and create their own manipulatives. This engaging way of learning will allow them to crystallize their knowledge and recall it for future use. Special education resource time can be difficult for some students because they are required to leave the classroom where their peers are learning. By increasing the engagement factor, I can help reduce some of the stigma that is associated with having a learning disability.
