  • We Are All Unique!

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Wow!! Thank you so much for helping us meet our goal! We want to thank you so much for your generosity. I can't begin to tell you what it means to these kids to have the opportunity to create new and unique projects with these art supplies! They are sweet, hard-working, highly creative children who will be so excited to unpack all of these items in just a few short weeks!

Again, thank you, and we will send you pictures to show you what we've done! Our classroom is a better place because of your awesome contribution.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Walsh

  • Pick a Spot to Sit!

    Funded Mar 10, 2022

You should have seen my students faces when that big rolled up carpet was brought down to our classroom!

When we heard that our Project was fully funded, the children and I predicted when it would be delivered. We marked our class calendar with a picture and we had a countdown to our anticipated delivery date. As the date quickly approach the children got more and more excited. Considering they are kindergartners, who started school during a pandemic, they had never been able to sit on the floor together and they were looking forward to it. After the carpet was rolled out, everyone was given a spot on the carpet to sit on and many hours of "carpet work" began. We sat on the carpet to do Fundations, listen to books, work on math projects and even our guided reading groups sat on the carpet. The kids loved it!

Thank you for helping to add lots of smiles and giggles to her classroom. You helped to introduce to these young students, what a kindergarten classrooms looked like prior to the pandemic.

Thank you so much for your support and generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Walsh

  • Eyes Over Here!

    Funded May 4, 2021

Wow!! The easel that we chose from Donors Choose arrived at the end of the day and the children were so excited! They wanted me to open the box and put it together before they left for the day. Alas, I did wait until they went home to assemble the beautiful easel. When they arrived this morning they were so excited!! They each got a chance to write and draw something on the board and enjoyed themselves immensely! We were able to use the edge on the easel to hold our big book for our reading lesson and we drew a picture on the dry erase board that represented what we were learning about in Science during the lesson. The uses for this easel are too many to count and it will get plenty of use in our classroom.

Thank you so much for your generosity and support for our young learners!”

  • Let's Find Out About the World Around Us!

    Funded Sep 1, 2020

Thank you so much for your generous support for my kindergarten class! This year has been a crazy year as we all now. My school building was open for seven days and my students came to the building twice in their different cohorts. Sadly we had to go fully remote due to high numbers of Covid cases in her neighborhood. The items such as the light and the magnetic boards have helped to create a bright and lively remote learning environment. Having magnetic letters and numbers at my disposal has allowed me to help the children visualize what was in multiple ways. Though teaching the children remotely has been greatly helped by your generous donations to my class, my hope is that I will be able to incorporate these items into my actual classroom when we return to the building. Please keep your fingers crossed that that happens sooner rather than later.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Walsh

  • One Seat— Two Seats— Look at My Seat!

    Funded Apr 25, 2020

Thank you so much for your very generous support for my class. As you probably know, NYC schools have been closed since March. Though we opened up for seven days at the end of September we have been remote since then. I am so anxious to get back to school and to use all of the wonderful items that have been delivered to my school building. The "wobbly, flexible seating" will be a great asset to our classroom when we eventually get back to the room. The children will be able to meet their sensory needs and have a defined spot to sit on when we are back working on the carpet. I am sorry that we do not have photos to share with you but like I said we have not been in the building.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Walsh

  • The ABCs of Good Learning

    Funded Jul 16, 2020

This has been a truly unique school year! We started the year remotely and then we had about 2 weeks in person using a hybrid schedule and now we are out of the building again since the COVID numbers in our neighborhood are high. The lights and scanner are very useful with our remote learning. They help the children see what I am teaching. The lights allow me to live teach in any space. It allows me to worry less about the video set up and I can focus more on the lesson that I will be teaching. The document camera allows me to show the children how to point to words while we are reading or how to move counters. I am able to show the children how to hold a pencil and how to form their letters. The document camera makes the presentation of material more like what they would see in class if we were in the building.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making our unique school year a little bit more "normal".”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Walsh

  • Listening and Learning!

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation and support for my kindergarten students. When the box arrived the children were so excited as they anticipated what might be inside. As we unpacked the box, the children's eyes lit up when they saw the headphones. They were eager to attach them to the iPads and find out how they fit! There ere many smiles when they realized that they fit on them comfortably and they could record their voices as they read their books online. The class iPads and computers became the most desirable center in the room. I love how dramatically the headphones have cut down the noise in our classroom! The privacy boards have been so useful when the children are working independently on activities.

    Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Walsh

  • Read It... Explore It... Play It! iPads Make a Difference!

    Funded Aug 21, 2019

Thank you so much for your very generous donation that helped my Kindergarten class purchase two iPads with cases (so they won't get accidentally broken)!

This year, I have 25 energetic five year olds who eagerly await "Center Time" when they get to independently use our new iPads. The children love logging into their personal phonics/ reading computer program and working on the iPads. Since the program, KidsA-Z.com starts the children off with basic letter sounds and works up to reading words and then stories, the children are able to work at their own pace. They are also able to listen to stories and then answer comprehension questions based on their individual reading abilities. I can already see great growth in their reading and this is directly due to your generous gift that you have given to our class!

Besides reading, the children are using the iPads, that we received through Donor's Choice, in our math lessons. We are able to have some of the children every day use the iPads to help them visualize our math concepts and reinforce their math skills that we have learned in that day's math lesson.

Our non English Language Learners are using the iPads to help increase the English auditory vocabulary through songs, pictures that have the English word said orally and short videos that teach concepts with simple English vocabulary. With the iPads, I can assign students specific activities to do or listen to throughout the day, helping them get to where they need to be so that they can excel in their academic school work.

These iPads have been a great addition to our class and it is because of you that we have them! We all thank you so much for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Walsh

In a kindergarten class of 26 students having two iPads to share during center time would be amazing! My kindergarten students would greatly benefit from having two iPads in the classroom. These young minds would be able to log onto their Kids A-Z reading program and work on their letter/sound connections, reading comprehension and listening skills during the day. They would be able to hear how words sound and they would be able to use voice recognition software to hear their own voices when they are reading. My Kindergartners would also love to explore numbers and math concepts using the many interactive programs that are available on the Internet. Having two iPads in our classroom would greatly enhance our students’ learning so that we can use the technology of the 21st-century every day as we tackle new ideas and concepts!
