  • Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader!

    Funded Oct 4, 2024

I am beyond grateful for your generosity and thoughtfulness in helping me get these books into my students’ hands!! I am super excited that my kids are asking me to get more bilingual and anime books in my library, and now, thanks to you all, I’ll be able to give them what they’ve been asking for! Stay tuned for some candid shots of them reading!!!”

  • Pencils Please!

    Funded Oct 19, 2023

Thank you so much for helping to fund this project! My students are so grateful to have pencils in the classroom for them to use every day. Sadly, the majority of my students do not have anything to write with but, thanks to your generosity, will not have that concern anymore!”

    Funded Sep 9, 2021

Thank you so much for your help in finding this project and helping so many middle schoolers start the year off with basic supplies to help them have a successful year!! It will no doubt be another challenging year ahead, but they are ready for whatever the year brings thanks to your help!

Wishing you all a productive and healthy year as well!”

  • A Monitor to Monitor Success

    Funded Nov 3, 2020

Just a quick but BIG thank you for helping fund my monitor for success project for last school year. I honestly don't know how I would have been able to teach effectively remotely without a second monitor. With your help, I was able to "see" all my remote students working while presenting my visuals and lesson on my laptop. It is the only way to teach remotely successfully. Without the additional monitor, I would not have been able to watch them and observe them when displaying my PowerPoint presentations. So... thank you all for your help!!”

  • Social Emotional Learning Needed Now More Than Ever!

    Funded May 21, 2020

It is with a grateful heart that I am writing to you all today. I have finished my online training certification program and despite the fact that is was not "in-person" as planned, the Breathe for Change organization did an incredible job implementing our remote experience! I have never had a more personal, rigorous and thorough online class and was amazed how they pulled this off so seamlessly! I will be utilizing many of their techniques in my own remote teaching this year with my students. We were able to meet in small break-out groups with no more than 5 per group to practice all we had learned while providing valuable feedback to improve our teaching techniques.

It was a lot to learn in only four weeks, but we had amazing instructors who made it all possible. All content was backed by research and I feel confident that I will be able to bring this into not just my classroom, but into my school community as well. I am hopeful that as time passes and the risk of Covid lessens, I will be able to conduct both in-school, after-school, and Saturday school classes not just for kids, but for their parents and my colleagues as well. I wish I was able to include pictures of my students using some of the techniques and strategies I learned, such as an internal weather report or mindful listening, but unfortunately school has not started here in NYC yet. If I'm able to add them in the next few weeks, I will!

Breathing, mindful movement and mindset are all necessary components in our daily lives and we need to start teaching them to our kids early on. If we had been taught in school that just by changing our mindset we could have changed the way we felt about learning, it could have been a game changer for many of us. It's time to bring this into every classroom in our country and help kids understand that these "skills" are equally important and oftentimes the only thing preventing them from learning the academic skills. Thank you again for you generous donations and helping me to help our kids!”

  • Trouble Sitting Still/Focusing in School? Sit in a Wobble Chair!

    Funded Dec 19, 2019

I can't even begin to describe the level of excitement in my classes when they saw the new seating options that appeared in our room! I had told them when the project was fully funded that we would be getting the wobble seats and explained the science behind them - how movement actually helps some students focus better. A few students immediately identified and knew they fell into this category.

The best news is they really work and the difference in work, stamina, focus and participation is dramatic! Thank you from me and all of my students. If they were here, I would video tape them all saying thank you, but unfortunately we are in in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak and I am here alone but I wanted to send this out to you all. Stay safe and healthy!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Donovan

Please help me provide my students with a 21st century classroom that is designed to help ensure success and engagement. Students should not be forced to sit still in an austere environment any longer. Research has shown us that many students need to move in order to stay engaged. Yet, unfortunately too many kids have given up on school because they were turned off the old way of learning and sitting in a classroom. Please help NYC middle schoolers NOT get discouraged about learning and stay engaged by using alternative seating that so many students today need. These wobble seats will give them the opportunity to stay in classrooms and learn as well as provide their body with what it needs in order to learn and focus. Help students remain engaged in school and learning by simply providing alternative seating which allows and encourages movement in the classroom.
