We are requesting a flexible learning environment with a chair, lap desk, headphones, laminator and pouches, and new books that will teach my students about emotions and accepting others. As 21st-century learners, most students no longer learn best by just sitting at a desk. With a flexible seating option, students are able to learn best according to their learning style and comfortability. In addition, my students with autism will now have access to a variety of areas in the classroom that provide different sensory inputs that can meet their needs, while at the same time, collaborate with their peers and in whole group discussions. The books in the cart are perfect in forming a culturally responsive classroom. The beginning of the school year, especially the first week of school is nerve-racking at times. These books will remind my diverse students to accept others for who they are, instead of who they are not.
