Prepared for the New Year!
Funded Nov 17, 2023Thank you so much for your generosity! As we move through the year, these supplies will be used and keep us working towards our goals. The students will keep organized with the binders and as we are running out of expo markers, those are very needed! Again, thanks for always thinking of us in education.”

Funded Nov 17, 2023I have been waiting and waiting to start Storyworks and Scholastic! My students in previous years have really enjoyed the wide variety of subjects and texts these two magazines have to offer. I use them in guided reading as well as for whole group lessons. Another great thing about these texts are that they build background knowledge which is something a lot of our students lack. Thanks again!”

Starting the Year Right!
Funded Sep 11, 2022The students are loving the stories and plays in Storyworks! Any time I try something different, they always want the Storyworks stories back. I appreciate the help purchasing the subscription for my class. They also help me as they come with great lesson plans all done! The lesson plans go well with our curriculum as there are a plethora of topics in all the different stories. They also include all the reading comprehension strategies that we work on in fifth grade, such as inferencing, plot, character comparisons, main idea and details and summarizing to name a few.
Lastly, the pencil sharpener is a welcome addition to our classroom. Ours broke last year so the new one is so appreciated!”

Ready to Read!
Funded Jul 15, 2021Coming off of remote learning, I knew I had to find ways to engage students and at the same time fill the gaps in their learning. One challenge is finding exciting and interesting stories my students to read, especially during small group time and guided reading.
Some of the skills we are working on and that Storyworks has helped us focus on are main idea and details as well as summarizing. We also do a lot of supporting our answers with text evidence which Scholastic and Storyworks has been great at highlighting.
In my classroom we have guided reading which is focused reading instruction and is usually leveled. I conduct guided reading each day, and rotate groups. I also have WIN time which is, what I need. These groups are focused on one standard or topic based on student need. For example, we will be focusing on summarizing this week.
Story work has given us the opportunity to engage in interesting and exciting stories. Some stories take place in places the students have never heard of, so along with helping with their reading, they are also building background knowledge they so desperately need.”

Starting the Year Off Right!
Funded Aug 9, 2020Thank you so much for providing my students with the essentials to begin their school year off on the right foot. As we are in remote learning the headphones provided have been a lifesaver. I have noticed my students have a lot of distractions and sounds all around them while learning. The headphones help keep them focused on learning and keep the extra noise out! When students have the materials they need and feel ready to do their work and don't feel left out, it is priceless. The confidence you have provided them, which you did, is awesome!”

Funded Jul 29, 2020The impact the school supplies you so generously provided is immeasurable. The majority of my students come from low income households so being able to provide them with essential supplies took the burden off of their families. Having the materials to work is the first step in engaging students in learning. It also gives them a sense of pride knowing they have what they need to learn and do their work. Often times we overlook how important pride is for our students, and knowing they are prepared gives them that pride. Thank you again for your generosity and understanding of our situation as teachers.”

Funded Mar 6, 2020Due to COVID-19 my class and I were unable to be together in the Spring when we planned to do a novel study using Matilda. That being said, I am fortunate to have looped with my class which means I am teaching my same group of students from last year. We are now fifth graders! I decided to start our remote learning year off with Matilda, and being able to share this has been incredible! The students love reading Matilda and it has really been a great way to start a very challenging experience. Having the books added to my class library will bring the magic of Roald Dahl and Matilda to all of my future 4th grade classes. Thank you so much! Stay safe and healthy!”

Funded Oct 2, 2019During our time in school the students enjoyed and used the flexible seating you kindly donated to us. My friends that have trouble focusing and need to move were greatly impacted by being able to "wiggle" around while at their desk. Since the seats are made to move, they were safe and focused on their work. The three foldable floor chairs were a great addition to our "library" and the students took turns each day using them. They even were allowed to use them while they did classwork, which helped when they were tired of sitting in their desk and needed a change of scenery. Thank you again so much!”
