Making Science Pop!
Funded Aug 4, 2022We are so grateful to be able to have this subscription to BrainPop. I use it to introduce topics that we are going to dive deep into. The students are so engaged, and as we take the Quiz at the end of each class and try to beat the previous score. My students love to have competitions amongst each class, and get very excited when they win. The way that the topics are discussed are very student friendly and informative.
Most of my students have never experienced BrainPop, so I am very honored to share this wonderful resource with them. We focus mostly on science and social studies videos, but I have found some other content that I will be able to use with my fifth graders as well.
We are very thankful for your very generous donations!”

Flex Options & Supplies
Funded Mar 11, 2020While this year has started off quite differently than we are used to, we are all trying to adjust and make our students feel at home and welcome. The time apart was very detrimental to our students, and with your help, I was able to bring a little joy into our classroom.
The bands and comfy seat help students adjust back to the in class setting, and allow them to release some of the energy that they might need to release. We are so appreciative of all of the donors. We are so excited to use the bands and comfy seats, even if the use looks a bit different this year. Thank you for supporting our classroom.”

Flex Seating & Social Studies Materials
Funded Aug 24, 2019Social Studies is often a subject that receives little notice. My goal with these books that we received was to excite my students about history, and to help them want to read more about historical events. I am planning projects and awesome student-led activities that will help them remember information about these events and hopefully share their excitement with other students. There is a variety of historical events that were featured in these books, and I am so excited to share them with my class!
Reading in fifth grade can be challenging. They learn to read for meaning, and sometimes have to use skills such as inferencing and paraphrasing to try to make sense of what they are reading. We teach our students to annotate the text, to select facts that really stand out to them to help them make capture the essence of the text. Through the use of graphic organizers and other summarizing tools, students will gain a comprehensive idea of these historical events.
So far, my students really enjoy reading about the explorers and the Gold Rush. They like to imagine what it must have been like sailing in those terrible conditions, or how it must have been to discover gold. They are looking forward to creating news reports where they will share their findings to their audiences.”
