The Eyes of the Future!
Funded Jan 9, 2021Thank you so much for helping our classroom. The future of virtual reality is here! Getting use to the touch controllers and getting past the adjustment phase, we were up and running. Wanting to create a positive impact on learning I began by using the Occulus as a center students could test it out. We were very excited to all be included in this station. Some students had already used some type of virtual reality before so they were so excited to finally have it in the classroom.
We, including me, were able to play musical games and games that tested their motor skills and eye coordination. We were able to use the VR set to go on virtual field trip to locations they have never been to. Seeing Mexico (most of my students are of Hispanic descent) through the VR set and creating lessons with budgets, the students worked in groups-allowed them to travel around the world.
I watched\videos about VR in upper education and learned that many colleges and universities are using VR as an extension of their learning. Engineers, Scientists and Education majors are all able to learn more about this tool and how it will affect how we live and the safety of our future. Scientists are learning how to use VR to create building that can withstand high winds (tornados and hurricanes). I wanted to show students that SCIENCE can be fun and it can also be their future!! Our next step are to request from my district Professional Dev. on VR and how I can use if for future science lessons. I felt a little restricted with the Occulus Rift because they no longer make it and the ones produced now can be used without a computer. What a treat it was to have this tool in our classroom and further learning for future scientists..”

Funded Aug 18, 2020I wanted to say a huge "THANK YOU" to all my donors who donated to my SCIENCE PALLOOZA project. Science supplies can be very costly to teachers but they are so needed to help kids learn, engage, create, and just have fun while learning.
I have used my science STEM cards and materials on our Virtual Fridays. Students are allowed to work at home or come to school. This is a great way small groups of students can use all the materials. I set up STEM stations or centers on these Virtual Fridays. Each group is allowed to visit the stations and completed the activities. I can say, their favorite station was the microscope. Most all of them have never looked through a microscope lens. They were able to look at the many slides that were sent with your donations. They loved looking at a bee's wing, a bee's leg, dragonfly abdomen, and horse hair! That was their favorite station by far and they were so excited to use the materials all on their own.
Thank you again for these materials. We aren't sure what our school or classrooms will look like in the future, but I will continue to use and reuse these materials for years to come. I am so grateful to you for making learning possible but most of all you helped make learning and SCIENCE FUN!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Harrison
