These materials will be used daily in my classroom as a way for students to record their findings, reflect on readings, review material, and pose questions for themselves, their group, or for the entire class to answer. Having the ability to record such things, and have a tangible record of their thoughts, questions, and observations will help put my students in the driver's seat of their education by allowing them to explore the topics that pique their interest within the scope of our units. Each day, at least 1 journal question will be posed to the class. The purpose of the journal prompt could be a number of things: to get the students thinking about the current text were reading, review grammar material, express their feelings about a current event, or simply to allow their mind to explore a lingering query. On a daily basis, my students make amazing observations, and connections to the content we're learning in class. However, no one has taught them, or given them the opportunity to record these thoughts, and build upon them for a larger cause.
By donating to our project, you will not only provide my students with a means to record their findings, but more so, an opportunity for them to witness the rampant growth they make throughout the year. Students will be able to reflect on the thoughts, findings, and questions they've made throughout the school year, and have a tangible record of their maturity. Although, in a larger sense, my goal is that my students can take their recordings, build upon them, and apply them to their community. By teaching my students this skill of recording and reflecting on their insights, the possibilities for their success are boundless.
