This Cricut is not just for the counselor to use! Yes, it will be used by me to create and cut social-emotional task cards, school wide PBIS themes, social-emotional student led projects, behavioral reward certificates & tokens, even magnets and brag badges for my students to use. What is most important, however, is that my upper elementary STUDENTS will actually use the Design Space computer program to create a variety of things using different mediums to support their social and emotional learning. Students will be able to personalize their creations to align with their personal goals dealing with various topics including friendship challenges, bullying, anxiety, and emotional regulation. Studies have shown that there is an increase in anxiety, depression and other mental health needs among elementary school students. Learning to notice and regulate uncomfortable emotions at a young age in a safe and healthy way can help students thrive throughout their lives. Being able to create, and help my students create counseling activities and crafts using colorful and new media will not only excite students, but it will keep them focused and engaged. Imagine how much colorful happiness it can create?!
