I am writing to thank you for your incredibly generous contribution to our English Department's netbook cart. As we gather more netbooks, we will eventually have a full class set, which will allow us to have a mobile computer lab. This means we can have our students research, type, and revise their writing in the classroom, meaning we can provide more one-on-one teaching targeted to each student's literacy level. This is an invaluable resource for working with our population, which needs tremendous support to be prepared for college.

Already, I have been able to quickly help students check their grades online, allowing them to make up missing work and raise their grade in the class. This has a direct impact on the colleges they will be eligible to apply to in their senior year. In addition, we have been able to use the netbooks to improve vocabulary knowledge and to research questions that have arisen during our reading of literature. Finally, a student whose writing suffers because of a difficulty writing clearly by hand was able to use the netbook to type his in-class essay.

I truly cannot thank you enough for your generosity. It is people like you who are making a difference in our underfunded public schools. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
