My children are so eager to learn! They are first graders, and just beginning to understand the words that are all around them every day. They are so excited to be emerging readers, and will develop so quickly in this and the next few years.
By giving them books to match their reading level, I can help my kids develop independent learning skills and the confidence that they can read on their own!
We are lucky in our school to have access to Leveled Reading books, which do such a good job of matching content and difficulty to each child's level. However, as our school grows in size, we need more books to support each grade level of students. So over the years, my once-vast library has shrunk, and it is now a little harder to ensure each child has an appropriate book all the time.
A new leveled reading library will enable me to restock my classroom with enough books for all my students. The Guided Reading Collection: Leveled Fiction and Nonfiction Combo provides both fiction and non-fiction. They will help me find books to match all students' interests, and also to teach them about various topics as they also practice reading! One thing I love most about non-fiction leveled readers is how independent my students feel (and are!) as they do their own 'research' on their own! In addition, I have requested some favorite fictional tales such as Elephant & Piggie, Danny and the Dinosaur, Paddington, and Amelia Bedelia. I love seeing my students faces when they can explore with these beloved characters on their own for the first time! They also love to re-read them over and over, which builds confidence as they can read them on their own.
