Flexible seating gives students the opportunity to have choices while participating in their learning. They are able to find spaces throughout the classroom that best fit their learning styles and their physical needs. Students are more engaged and more work gets done than when they are just sitting at their desks. Students flourish when they are given choices. Not only will this project help with flexible seating, but it will also help me build my classroom library with books that augment our curriculum. Throughout the year we focus on the Hero's Journey, The Holocaust, and Dystopias. The novels that I have selected will be high interest for students who want to learn more about those topics. My hope is that every student leaves my class as someone who reads for enjoyment, not just for assignments. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
