  • Yearbook Special!

    Funded Jan 22, 2012

Thank you so much for your generosity! The student's love the camera and already begun going around to the different classes to take pictures...and any special event such as the dance, field trips, inquiry experiments in the classroom, etc. the camera will be used for. With the memory card I received the student's will be able to keep every picture in one camera, and begin to create a PowerPoint presentation Yearbook which we will give to each 7th and 8th grader on DVD. I will supply the DVD's myself and each student will not have to pay this year!

The features are great, the picture quality is excellent, and the camera is sturdy so I trust the student's in charge of the yearbook with this device.

Thank you again for your support in making our school a better place during these difficult times in the economy!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Bell

  • Tablet for Technology Teaching

    Funded Dec 23, 2011

Thank you so much for this donation! The student's love using the science and math applications on the tablet, using it for looking up vocabulary quickly, and finding ideas for projects through the browser. I also use this device while I'm not at work or home to grade papers, look up different experiments, download interactive science and math applications for supplemental learning.

I believe all teachers should be equipped with a tablet because of how much time it saves me while at work to prepare for experiments and find better lessons instead of grading through Powerschool (an online program to put grades in for each student).

Again, thank you for your generosity and support...this tablet will be put to good use and will be used for many years in the classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Bell

  • Scientific Inquiry Lab Reports

    Funded Oct 25, 2011

Thank you so much for all your support! I've been able to start saving my student's work and PowerPoint presentations on the hard drive, and the students are able to use the flash drive to download their lab reports or PowerPoint presentations now without having to print everything out and wasting paper. I now am beginning to grade their projects through the flash drive and show them on the computer their errors, then they correct or change the fixes needed and save back to the flash drive! This is so much more efficient, helps the environment, and teaches the students about technology! And the greatest part is now I have wifi throughout the classroom for our laptops...even though they are old, I reformatted them and the laptops run much better and the students can use them for research :)

Thank you again for your generosity!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Bell

  • Biochemistry is Essential in the U.S.A!

    Funded Oct 13, 2011

Thank you so much for your generosity to our school's science program. The materials could not have come at a better time! We just started learning about cells, the cell theory and the differences between plant and animal cells. The students have been able to look at the human cells and compare them to different plant cells, while using the Internet to look at larger pictures and at models of cells. This has been a big change from last year where I only could show a print out copy of the animal and plant cell. Also, the Bunsen burner will be great for teacher demonstrations once we get into biochemistry, and will be useful for my 8th grade students as well for chemistry class to explain the changes in state of different chemicals and reactions. And the blades will be very useful at the end of the year when we dissect frogs and clams! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Bell

  • Help With Computer Technology

    Funded Mar 15, 2011

Thank you so much for your donations...you have helped me create a science technology inquiry based learning classroom. The students love the fact that they can now go to their seats with the laptop and look up our science objectives, helps with new strategies to find ideas for projects we create, and the students do not have to wait to use a desktop while other groups are on them.

One group is working on a PowerPoint presentation on the history of atoms on the laptop, and I will be able to hook the laptop up to the smartboard in my classroom to share with the whole class.

Again thank you for helping my inner city students grow!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Bell

We are a Title 1 school, meaning that if our children do not pass over a certain score level on the Connecticut Mastery Testing, the state could take over and many teachers' jobs will be at stake. Our students want us to give them the answers instead of using scientific inquiry and finding information out for themselves through the use of books and computer technology. I had an old laptop of mine that I allowed the students to use in class while working and noticed that the students began to find information out themselves, allowing more time for the students to engage in creativity. This also freed up time for me to check and monitor their projects and lab reports. Unfortunately, my laptop that was ten years old finally stopped working, and it was too slow processing information in the first place. I love my students and want them to succeed not only in school, but in life...to follow their dreams!
