  • Color Me Petri

    Funded Jan 15, 2018

Thank you again for your generous donations!!! Our students were able to complete many science fair projects, a lab called "Fun Forms of Energy" and many other activities using the glue, markers, crayons, poster boards and tape! The students enjoyed using the thermometers which will be used for years to come during our states of matter lessons. the iron powder to create magnetic slime, and the board games as a way to build positive behavior in the classroom.

Battleship will also use cross cutting education between math and science!

    Thank you for your generosity!!!”

  • Tablet to Teach

    Funded Mar 10, 2016

So far the students have been using the tablet for collaboration on a skeletal/digestive/circulatory rap song while creating real motivation to do their best! I'm so happy that my kids have this opportunity in the classroom to work with up-to-date technology. Such a small computer with a big impact on the children's performance in the class. I also use this tablet while walking around the classroom to grade papers, projects and student discussion very easily, allowing for quicker response time for each student and faster extra help when a student is unsure of their work.

I thank you again for your generosity. This is a huge help.”

  • Incubating the Egg

    Funded Dec 22, 2015

Thank you so much for your generosity! The students are ecstatic about the Quail hatching soon. A group has already begun making a Quail house for them and brought in a water feeder, bowls for the food, and little blankets for the Quail to sleep on.

One particular girl has already planned on taking a Quail home to raise herself (with parent permission of course) and created a spot in her bedroom with a bed, blanket, food and water and toys! She is beyond excited!

As a whole class, all the students are involved in designing a Quail home for all the babies and have prepared a spot in the classroom. The students have been studying what Quails are, what they need to survive, their natural habitat and ecosystem, and why Quail are important for the environment.

Thank you again for all you have done and pictures are coming soon!”

  • Supplies to Reward in the Urban School District

    Funded May 25, 2015

Having bought the PlayStation Vita for my students to use as an incentive to do their classwork has made a huge impact on their concentration during class. Many of the students focus on the lessons even more than before knowing they may have a chance to use the learning game, "As Smart As", for a 15-30 minute block for good behavior and excellent classwork.

The protective shield has worked well keeping the playstation vita from breaking and the memory card has allowed me to download other stimulating educational games.

Thank you so much for your help!!!”

  • High Need for a New Laptop!

    Funded Sep 14, 2014

I feel very lucky to have received this laptop. The support and care you show for our students is truly commendable.

Know that this gesture has been noticed by the entire 7th and 8th grade students. I am as appreciative as a man can be. My students and I will be and already have been using this technology for scientific inquiry lessons, projects, searches, and creative writing/learning, which is a resource each student should have home and at school!

The students started to research what their science fair projects will be on, using the technology to stimulate a creative scientific inquiry lab report and experiment. Ideas are coming in left and right to my email box, asking me if this project is good or not! I'm so proud of all of the students working hard and asking for my suggestions before starting the lab. My students have won the city and state science fair before, and this year we are set up for winning again!

So thank you all again. Here is to another excellent year. I look forward to the challenges and rewards ahead!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Bell

  • Looking for a Little Luck

    Funded May 9, 2014

First off I'd like to thank the donors for supporting this project and helping with technology use in the classroom. My student's are very excited to have the opportunity now to save all of their scientific inquiry labs and projects that they do throughout the year and keep for future reference. They are also very happy that we will have the storage space to create a yearbook for when they graduate as 8th graders. The resources received for a bit too late to start the yearbook this year, however I will save all the pictures of their field trips that we are going on, science lab pictures and other such activities throughout the rest of the remaining school year and next year as well.

With all the data storage this equipment will create a better learning environment and keep all my student's to looking forward to fun activities, including a yearbook committee!

Thank you again for all your support!”

    Mr. Bell

  • High Technology for Scientific Inquiry Needed!

    Funded Jan 31, 2013

Please accept my heartfelt thanks for your gift donations. I want to express my appreciation for your generosity in support of applied technology in the science classroom. Each personal commitment was incredibly helpful and allowed us to reach our goal. Your assistance means so much to me but even more to my student's.

The blu ray player/burner will be used for teaching how advanced technology/science has come, teaching wavelengths, laser technology and pixel advancements (part of the STEM and common core curriculum being implemented this year, and creating an advanced environment for storing large amounts of data for my student's/my work over the many years.

Your generosity will make an immediate difference in the lives of the children. The funds raised will go toward creating a technology education environment, applied science involvement, and new science skills our students are not used to. You are making a difference!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Bell

  • Basics for Teaching in Science Class

    Funded Feb 4, 2013

Thank you all so very much for these much needed resources...I received all the materials recently, yet we are in the middle of state testing so I have not been able to take pictures of the student's using the materials yet. However, the swivel chair is helping me out greatly with my physical disability to move around the room to check on their work, answer questions, and quiz students orally on their classwork at hand. The board cleaner has made my whiteboard look much better, the purell hand sanitizer helps to cut down on students needing to leave class to wash their hands in the bathroom, and the brooms have made our custodians much happier when they see they don't have to clean up after a messy project! The DVD's and usb drives cut down on use of paper and now I can take pictures as well of all my students projects when completed. Also, the batteries we will be using in the flashlights I have for an inquiry project were greatly needed. All the basics that I received through your help have made the environment in my classroom work much smoother. Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • Tablet Time!

    Funded Mar 24, 2012

Thank you with all our hearts for helping us out with the tablet time project! Now the students can use the tablet for research, online experiments and even typing lab inquiry projects. Not only I, but the students as well feel much better with the safety of a protective case and shield on the tablet. Before we had this equipment, I'd have the student using the tablet sit near me and one eye would always be on it! Now, even though I am still protective of the computer, I don't worry as much and the student's are very careful as they know it's expensive. This is a huge help in the classroom and will be used for years to come!

Thank you again for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Bell

  • America's Future Needs Applied Science Technology

    Funded Dec 21, 2011

I wanted to thank you for your support in this donation because it was perfect timing when receiving these materials! The digital microscope is going to be used at our upcoming science fair for two of my student's project called "Nasty Facts" on the different types of amoebas and paramecium's in lake water versus salt water. This has been an excellent tool for showing the different slides I have of bacterium and viruses, as well as different organ tissues.

The forensics kits will be used shortly and will create an exciting learning environment for the children. I will post as many pictures that I can when we get to this section of Life science.

The hair analysis kit, the urban water testing kit and the "Who did it" forensics kit will be amazing inquiry projects and I am excited to use these as well!

Already the student's are so happy to test different areas of our school to find out where most of the bacteria is using the agar culture plates! They are also scared to find out at the same time :)

Again, thank you so much for your generosity and look soon for the pictures I'll be posting!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Bell

We are a Title 1 school, meaning that if our children do not pass over a certain score level on the Connecticut Mastery Testing, the state could take over and many teachers' jobs will be at stake. Our students want us to give them the answers instead of using scientific inquiry and finding information out for themselves through the use of books and computer technology. I had an old laptop of mine that I allowed the students to use in class while working and noticed that the students began to find information out themselves, allowing more time for the students to engage in creativity. This also freed up time for me to check and monitor their projects and lab reports. Unfortunately, my laptop that was ten years old finally stopped working, and it was too slow processing information in the first place. I love my students and want them to succeed not only in school, but in life...to follow their dreams!
