The majority of my students are English language learners, who have minimal English support at home. Research has shown the importance of tangible, hands on activities for increasing their level of understanding and learning. We are requesting hands on early literacy and math games, fluency builders and practice materials that will help build their basic skills.
My students need practice, as well as multiple exposures, to solidify skills such as proper letter formation, reading and discussing grade level text that is not too overwhelming (Time for Kids), and basic math. The materials I have selected will allow my students to have practical, worth while skill practice during both my math workshop and literacy center time blocks in my classroom. This, in turn, will free me up to work with students in small groups, and even individually, to provide the essential individualized instruction needed for each of my students.
