No Bones About It!
Funded Dec 8, 2014My students LOVE the skeleton! It made its debut after our winter break. The students have named him Skelly! I have students from other grade levels coming to visit him!
He has been an integral part of all of our Science lessons! The students are able to see the bones in action. They can move and manipulate all parts of the skeleton. It has been incredible to refer to a certain bone, show the bone, and the bone's movement. It has been very helpful in teaching the students about joints. It is one thing to show a video clip about joints, but quite another for the students to actually move Skelly's joints and show they work.
Your generous donation has changed the way that my students feel about science. They are so excited to come into class to learn more about Skelly! I am so proud of my students because ALL of my current students scored extremely well on their science test because Skelly made it easier and fun to learn the parts of the skeletal system! Thank you for your support in making my classroom a place where everyone can learn!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Disney and 3 other donors.Jammin' to Audio Books
Funded Nov 7, 2014Thank you for getting my kids excited about reading! With each package I received, my kids would beg me to show them the new CDs and books. One of my struggling readers was almost in tears because he could finally "read" a Geronimo Stilton book that was well above his independent reading level. To see the excitement in his eyes at being able to read a book that his classmates were reading was priceless.
We are using the CD players and stories daily during our Daily 5 Literacy rounds. Students are able to pick a book and listen to the story read fluently and with expression. My higher readers are challenged by reading and listening to higher level books. All of my students love being able to read interesting books on their reading level!
My reading centers are able to flow smoothly now because "listen to reading" is immediate. There is no more waiting for the computer to load or listening to distorted voices. The student forwards to where they left off the previous day and begins reading. The books on CD also provide an excellent opportunity for my students to go back and listen to correct pronunciation.
Your generous donations have definitely created a reading buzz in my classroom. Thank you for supporting me and my students!”

Help Put Our Noses Into Good Books
Funded Oct 15, 2013As I was telling my students that for their next reading project, they could only use non-fiction texts, I could hear the complaints start. I told them that I had a special surprise for them and showed them the box of books that I received from this project. Their complaints turned into laughter and excitement. They eagerly began to sort through the books!
These books have become a great asset to my classroom. We are using the books to research facts and find interesting anecdotes about the famous historians. My students are excited to learn about scientists, musicians, authors, politicians, and athletes. Non-fiction reading has become entertaining. Our class discussions are lively as the students share what they have learned. In February, I hope to hold our first annual Biography Museum using these books. Students will use the books to create a short presentation about their topic.
Thank you for providing my students with the resources to become interested in non-fiction texts! Not only have these books made them excited to read, they have also helped them learn ways to find the important information in a story. I'm excited about the possibilities!”
