Urban Chicken Tenders!
Funded Jan 22, 2023I have to tell you, this was one of the most rewarding projects I have ever done with my students! The whole process of incubating the eggs and raising the chicks is one my students will never forget. In fact, the whole school was involved with watching the chicks hatch and taking care of them.
When the students first received the materials they were so excited. We had never done anything like this before, so we were nervous, but determined. We did a lot of research and made sure everything was perfect for our eggs. Each time we candled the eggs, we were amazed to see the chicks growing and moving. It was quite an experience! On the 21st day, we started hear the chicks "peeping" and watched them hatch. I can honestly tell you, nothing else was done that day other than staring into the incubator and squealing every time a chick was born. We incubated 12 eggs and THEY ALL HATCHED! Every single one of them. Needless to say, our classroom has been the most visited classroom in the school.”

School Supplies Needed: Inspire Within
Funded Aug 28, 2019First, I want to thank you again for your very generous donation. The supplies all arrived within the first week of school. This means that when our students entered their classroom on the first day of school, their school supplies were on their desks waiting for them! I wish I could send a video so you could hear all their exclamations and cheers. In addition to the joy this brought our students, it also brought great relief to our parents. They were so grateful to have this burden lifted from them. When you have multiple children with various supplies lists, the cost can add up quickly!
On my end, this project has had such a positive impact on my classroom organization. Usually the students bring their supplies in bit by bit. This causes issues when we're trying to set up our binders, or add resources to them. Because we had the supplies from the beginning, we've been able to be organized from day one! It has really been a blessing. Thank you again for helping my students start off the year on such a positive note.”

Vibrant Writers Need Color Printer
Funded Feb 22, 2019I want to take this opportunity to once again thank you for your generosity in helping to fund this project. The printer is absolutely wonderful. It came with two years worth of ink, so I know this will last us at least three years since we only use it for publishing our writing. Additionally, it is very easy to use. This is always a plus in a busy classroom like ours!
The impact the printer has had on my students is tremendous. They are so excited to publish their writing projects. Watching their faces as their work is printed is priceless. They even request an extra copy to show their families. Having their writing pieces printed in color also makes our hallway look colorful and professional. We often see students from other classrooms reading their writing because it is so eye-catching!
Finally, my students wanted me to express to you how grateful and happy they are with the new printer. So from all of us, thank you again for making such a positive difference in our classroom!”

¡Queremos Leer También! We Want to Read Too!
Funded Apr 8, 2018I want to thank you again for helping to enrich our library with books in Spanish. When the box arrived, the students were so excited to open it! Once we got everyone settled down, I opened the box and began to read the titles to the class. I wish you could have seen the reaction from my Spanish speaking students. Their eyes grew with excitement when they realized that all our new books were in Spanish.
Since adding the books to our library, my Spanish speaking students now have books to read during our Independent Reading time. Prior to receiving these books, my Spanish speaking students would be disruptive during this time. This makes sense because they didn't have books to read! However, due to your help, this problem no longer exists. My students are engaged and love to read their new books.”

We Want to Read More Books!
Funded Oct 18, 2017Once again, I would like to thank you for your donations to our classroom project. Due to your generosity, every student in my classroom now has a seat pocket for their independent reading books. Previous to having the seat pockets, the students were only able to sign out two books at a time from our classroom library. This was due to limited desk space. With their new seat pockets, the students can now sign out five books!
More than half of my 2nd grade students are reading at a kindergarten reading level. As a teacher, I am increasing the rigor of my instruction as well as having the students participate in 20 minutes of independent reading each day. By having the seat pockets, I can ensure that my students always have a book to read on their level.”

Funded Nov 9, 2011We have just begun our literacy unit: Let's Grow! In anticipation of starting the unit, we had Eat Right Now give the students a lesson on spinach and its health benefits. The students were a little apprehensive at first, stating that they did not like spinach. By the end of the lesson, they had learned how to grow spinach, why it is good for them and were even given a taste test. I'm happy to report that ALL of the students loved the spinach and were very eager to start growing their own.
Currently, we are using the plant growing station to grow spinach and peas. The students are so excited to see seedling popping out of the dirt and are thinking of other vegetables they would like to grow. This is just a big deal for my little ones because they do not have any green space to nurture plants. With your donation, my students have become obsessed with how plants grow and are eager to learn about them every day. I wish you could see them running to the plant station every morning to check on their plants-it's a wonderful sight to see! Thank you again for making such a difference in the lives of my students. ”

Funded Dec 19, 2010I want to thank you for your wonderful and very appreciated donations. Because of your generosity, my students now have books that they can read independently. Since the books arrived, my students now use our classroom library with purpose and enthusiasm. They sit with one another and practice reading the new books, which helps build their fluency and confidence in reading. Their enthusiasm to read these books has also helped tremendously during differentiated small group instruction. They are eager to move up to the next reading level so that they can read "the harder books."
Thank you again for helping me help my students. I was so touched to see this project funded. I want you to know that the books are loved and that my students are very grateful to have them.”

Mrs. Lucca
