  • Teaming Up With Technology

    Funded Apr 19, 2024

Saying "thank you" just doesn't quite convey how my class and I feel about your help! Since we began using the headphones with microphones in conjunction with the Chromebooks, I have seen an increase in their desire to read for FUN not because I require it. The moment they learned they could record and playback their reading, I saw an instant spark! They began to GLADLY record their reading practice and to my delight, began to mimic how I model reading to them (showing the pictures, discussing the title and author, etc.). I also noticed that after watching their recording once, they would reread the book adding more expression!

From the deepest part of my heart, I am so thankful that you chose to fund our project. Your gift has made a lasting impression on my learners because you helped to gift them a love of reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ellis

  • We've Got The "Write" Stuff!

    Funded Nov 10, 2019

I am extremely grateful to you for your gift of kindness. It was my vision to create a love of writing in my students that would perhaps last a lifetime. Because of you, the love of writing has been sparked.

From the time the printer arrived, my students were excited about the idea of creating and publishing their own books and stories. The interest in writing also caused a spike in their interest in reading. That is the type of reaction that a teacher dreams of...and it was made possible because of you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ellis

"I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn" -Anne Frank I have seen that the more opportunities a student has to write, the better their reading skills become. Because of the link between the two subjects, I would like to ignite a love of writing in my students by way of providing opportunities to publish their writing thus deepening their reading skills. My students will have the opportunity to create and publish student created books, poems, and narratives. It will allow them to showcase their unique voice in their pieces. Because a large population of my students are second language learners, those students will have chances to develop not only writing in their native language, but also practice writing in their newly acquired language.
