  • You Can Count On Me Like 1,2,3!

    Funded Feb 14, 2025

The students' smiles were evident as they watched me open the new toys, and place them into the various centers.

My Pre-K students have been excited to explore the new resources, especially the people manipulatives. One memorable moment occurred when they began incorporating them with the blocks and Magnatiles. They created a line with the figures, pretending to play school and imitating the classroom setting. As they arranged the figures, they even counted how many students were in the line, which sparked conversations about numbers and groupings. It was a wonderful way for them to engage in imaginative play while practicing early math skills!

Your generosity and kindness made this happen! I can't wait to see what the future holds for my little learners!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Levene

  • Snacks for All!

    Funded Nov 15, 2024

We can't thank you enough for your generosity and thoughtfulness!

In the afternoon, after story-time, we have snack time on our daily schedule in the Pre-K classroom. Thanks to Donors Choose, each student now has a yummy snack to eat! Snack time is an important time in the Pre-K classroom because it builds community when we all sit together and we can practice our language and communication skills. We have been thoroughly enjoying the new snacks, the fridge and the microwave!

When my students first saw all of the boxes and the snacks, they could not believe that this was for them. One student said, "Is that a new fridge?". Additionally, students really liked the Oreos and the Goldfish snacks.

The next steps for us will be to probably replenish the snacks with another project! I am also thinking of a STEM counting project for my Pre-K students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Levene

  • Buckets Full of Fun!

    Funded May 15, 2024

Wow! My students and I are so thankful for the wonderful buckets, bubbles, snacks, straws and chalk that we received. Throughout the school year, my young learners have worked on their emergent literacy skills with a multitude of tactile items. For example, students wrote their names outside with chalk on the playground at school. Students also used the classroom sand and buckets to trace letters in the sand. When the students saw their own buckets with chalk, their faces lit up! They said, "Can we keep these?" They were ecstatic! One student said, "I want to bring the bucket to the beach to play in the sand." Another student said, "I want to draw a hopscotch game at the park."

I can't wait to find out more about how the students will use these items over the summer to enhance their learning! Thank you, donors!”

  • Diverse Books for Preschoolers!

    Funded Apr 21, 2023

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. My students have been practicing many emergent literacy skills. My young readers are eager to learn and explore books and environmental print. My students have been working on orienting books properly, reading from left to right, and noticing the pictures and the words. New books enable their excitement and curiosity towards literature. My students tend to read in the library on our plush couches that are surrounded by book buddies, pillows and props. One of my students really loves the Martin Luther King Jr. book! She kept pulling the book off the shelf to read again and again! We can't wait to continue reading our new books!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Levene

  • We Love Literacy!

    Funded Sep 29, 2022

My students and I are so grateful for the literacy materials that your donations provided for us. When my students saw the Brown Bear Brown Bear props, their eyes lit up and they instantly wanted to use and hold the materials. For my young learners, emergent literacy is critical for their development and fluency skills. Therefore, our new books and story retelling puppets have enhanced our classroom library. Our library center has become a popular spot for students to reenact stories with these new props. One student even asked me if she could stay in the library and read for longer!

My next steps would be to continue using the felt board for future read-alouds. We can also do some literacy-based projects with our new books!

    Thank you so much!!”

  • We Love Nature!

    Funded Aug 2, 2022

Thank you so much for enhancing our learning! My students were very excited to receive the new materials! We experimented with our new seeds, soil and flower pots. Recently, students observed lavender seeds closely and then planted them in soil. Then, students placed the plants on our classroom windowsill for them to grow and receive sunlight.

When my students first saw the new materials, they were curious! They wanted to feel them and use them right away. I placed the materials in our science area in the classroom for students to use. Our next steps are to watch how the plant grows and make predictions. We will be planting some more and digging into the insect toys to count and notice the characteristics.

Thank you again everyone!! We could not have done this without you!”

  • I've Got a Feeling!

    Funded Nov 15, 2021

Thank you so much for enriching my classroom with social emotional resources. For instance, each day, we do daily Mood Meter check-ins where students express how they are feeling by placing their name in a color, such as red is angry, blue is sad, green is calm and yellow is happy. The materials that Donors Choose provided us with has helped us self regulate these feelings! Students have more options to choose from, such as squeezing a manipulative, sitting on the comfortable bean bag, watching the water move in the sensory tubes and so much more!

When my students first saw the new social emotional resources, their eyes lit up. Our class cozy corner was a major highlight. The soft and colorful foam squares, pink bean bag and the squishy scented unicorn are some of our class favorites! Students love to visit the cozy corner to help them self regulate.

My next steps are to discover more kinds of social emotional materials to incorporate into my classroom. Thank you again, Donors Choose!”

  • I Screen, You Screen, Let's "Screen" for Remote Learning!

    Funded Mar 5, 2021

Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness. My students' learning was enhanced because of the new technology that you provided for the classroom. Technology was an important part of my students' learning this past school year in our remote classroom. I was able to display larger and clearer visuals for my students on the monitor. I had the ability to look at more students all at once on the screen too!

The new monitor was so exciting for my students because they could see our Google Slides coherently. Every day, I pulled up my visuals on the monitor in order to elicit participation from my students. All in all, my students were more engaged and ready to learn with the addition of our new monitor! One student said, "Wow, Ms. Levene, that picture got so big!".

We are so appreciative of our new monitor!”

  • Reading Rocks!

    Funded Jan 6, 2021

I am amazed and inspired by your generosity towards my classroom. My preschool students are emergent readers, therefore, each book is a novel and eye-opening experience for them. We have been practicing many new literacy skills during remote learning! For example, we are predicting what will happen in a text by looking at clues on the front cover. We are also working on increasing our conversational skills by having more discussions about our books. Each day, I read to my students with expression and enthusiasm. The books that we received have some of my students favorite characters, such as Pete the Cat, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly and so much more! Thank you for your kindness and continuous support for my classroom. It is because of you that we have more books to read and enjoy!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Levene

In and out of the classroom, my preschoolers will be counting, coloring, gluing, and creating unique ideas that will enhance their learning through play. In preschool, students' fine motor skills are developing, so it is important to provide them with opportunities to use supplies. Many of these students will be in school for the first time, so I would like to make this year interactive, engaging and joyful for them! Students at this young age express themselves through play and their creations should be cherished. Therefore, students will benefit positively from being provided with individual supplies for their play-based learning.
