My students often come from an environment that is not conducive to social-emotional growth. My school has several systems in place this year to help facilitate growth in these areas. One of these systems is that each classroom has a self-regulation spot. The goal of these spots is for students to reset their behavior without walking out of the classroom or being asked by there teacher to leave. My personal goal this school year is to not have any students walk out and not ask any students to leave. To help me achieve this goal, my students need a variety of ways to calm down once they are in the spot. I already have a lamp and some coloring sheets in my self-regulation spot. I would like to have some fidgets for students to be able to use. In addition, I started with a blank slate in my classroom. I only had student desks and a teacher desk. To help my students with formative assessment, I am requesting whiteboards, dry erase pockets, and dry erase markers. My students thrive on instant feedback and it would be much easier to give to them if I had these tools.
