At the beginning of last school year, I surveyed my students to get an idea of what would make mathematics more engaging for them. To my surprise a good majority said that if they were able to be more creativity in class they would feel as if they were being catered to, so to speak. I asked them to expound, some sample examples were, drawing, jewelry making, singing and etc. I took these recommendations and went to work. I researched ways to incorporate art and drawing into the math classroom. I came up with creating and decorating your math vocabulary book, each day it was required to get your markers out and draw a picture to represent at least one of the problems from the day and I also gave students as an incentive to be able to create their own bracelet or necklace for themselves or a family member.
