• Lights, Camera, Action, Community!

  The materials from this project have already made a big impact on my students' photography and the community it benefits. The Winter Dance Showcase was recently, and the materials came just in time to use the speed lights and lenses to document the performance. The student photographers created a sideshow of their dance performance photos, and we shared that with the school. The dance teacher and student were so proud and excited to have their hard work documented and displayed.

  This is just the beginning! My students are looking forward to learning more about how to use the new equipment, and other community members are already asking about their events being photographed.

• Amplify the Voices of Young Photographers

  Funded May 7, 2024

  The materials we received for my classroom has made a great impact on my students' joy and understanding of the history and application of photography. Using instant Polaroid cameras has allowed them to appreciate the wonder of print photography, the creativity within a restriction that film photography provides, and the opportunity to participate in a cultural phenomenon.

  Our classroom had the opportunity to host a visiting kindergarten classroom from a nearby school. We had great intergenerational conversations about goals, favorite subjects, books and snacks! We also took photographs of each other with the Polaroid instant cameras. My high school students got to share their love and knowledge of this art form with an even younger group of students who had never seen this technology before. The littles took their photos with them back to their kindergarten classroom as a archived memory, and our students added their prints to their process journals. It was a sweet and impactful moment.”

• Help Young Photographers Tell Their Stories

  Funded Mar 27, 2024

  We received the memory cards, the readers and the card storage and it already has made a difference in our class. My 8th graders are starting heir photography unit, and having these accessories made the start of the project so much more organized and clear. Everyone was able to have their assigned card, keep it stored cleanly and carefully, and have an adaptor to transfer the images to their computer. It was a seamless process thanks to these pieces of equipment!

  Often times, our tech is old, worn, broken or disorganized. That can really impact my student's learning experience. Especially with something like photography and art, I want them to have easy access to the material and be able to create quickly, so that they are engaged right away. Thanks to your generous donation, we were able to get them hooked on art right away!”

  With our new lenses, I have already been able to replace our broken lenses and distribute those cameras to waiting students! They have been building on their new knowledge of exposure and manual settings. They are also improving their control of composition, and exploring visual storytelling. They are so excited to document their world and share it with us, and soon will publish their magazine!

  With our new cameras, I have already been able to recruit more students to the photo program and give them access to high-quality equipment. They have been learning manual settings like aperture shutter, speed, and manual focus. They are also improving their control of composition, and exploring visual storytelling. They are so excited to document their world and share it with us.

• Support the Vision of Young Photographers!

  My students and I can't thank you enough for funding the Visions of Young Photographers project. Your donations purchased 2 high quality DSLR cameras for my students to use, primarily by participants in my school's extracurricular Photo Program. The Photo Program is an intensive program for students ready to commit to photography on a more advanced level. It is a very powerful way that students build confidence, learn critical thinking skills, push their creative boundaries, develop leadership skills, and more.

  These two cameras will help push these goals even further. Often we must resort to cheaper cameras or using phone cameras. Sometimes that's acceptable, but the impact is far greater when students have a professional camera to work with. Their images are far better and their confidence and buy in is much greater. Already my students have been exploring this new equipment with pride and excitement! They are so impressed that we have this equipment for them to use, and it also means we can accept more students into the program, since we have more cameras.”
