At my DC public school, my first grade scholars do not have access to technology in the classroom. Despite rigorous and creatively driven lessons, students would be even better served in my classroom if they had access to technology. The district utilizes a web based reading program, Lexia, which individualizes various reading goals to target areas of growth for students and help them met first grade reading expectations. By adding technology to our classroom, my students will have another layer of differentiated instruction that builds on the skills discussed in a whole group context. In the quest to close the achievement gap for low-income black and brown students, technology in the classroom will undoubtedly help us reach our goals!
