  • Essentials for My Students to Thrive During Distance Learning!

    Funded Feb 3, 2021

I want to thank you for your generosity in providing my students with both a writing journal as well as a backpack with accessible tools for at home learning! I currently teach at an inner city school where students do not have access to basic school supplies or manipulatives at home. At times, they are not able to complete homework due to lack of scissors, glue, crayons and math manipulatives. They also do not have a journal where they are able to complete and collect a portfolio of all their writing in order to see progression. All of my students and parents were in awe when they picked up their backpacks in the front of the school. I began to get emotional and am extremely thankful that they now have an opportunity to have access to supplies where they have an opportunity to create a space in their apartment or home where they can easily locate their supplies.

My student's parents all sent me a heartfelt message via class dojo app thanking the donors and let me know how helpful all of the supplies were. I am forever grateful to you all for have done for Room 11! I now do not need to worry about my students have access to their supplies and know they can do their homework with minimal stress on the part of both students and parents. My students have an eligibility of Autism and I try to provide equals access of materials to them. Their faces lit up when they received their backpacks and journals and proudly wore them on their backs as they walked back home. Lastly, we are forever grateful and thank you fo all you have done to provide for our classroom needs! I continue to have the same students this year and parents still proudly send me pictures with their homework station filled with the supplies you provided! Thank you!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Pulido

  • Help our students communicate!

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

My students have had an opportunity to use technology because of your generous donation. Technology is not readily available to my students with Autism in the Core curriculum. Therefore, utilizing these tablets not only during small groups but also for my non verbal students allowing them to communicate. I am forever grateful for your generosity in allowing our students access to something they need in order to communicate basic needs. My students love learning how to use a tablet and look forward to small groups during literacy time. In particular, my two students who are non verbal now have a voice and I have seen a change in their overall mood. They are excited to come to school and have a sense of belonging to our class!

Thank you again for your generosity to our students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Pulido

This classroom project was brought to life by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and one other donor.
My school has high rates of free and reduced lunch along with a low economic standing. Many of my students come to school hungry with school being their only two meals a day. I believe incorporating tables will be used to create an engaging and motivating learning environment. It is very important that my students can use these tablets as most importantly a way of communication. Many of my students are non –verbal and need a communication device in order as a means of communication with myself as well as with their peers. Using a communication board app on the tablet will allow my students a voice and is a vital component of their communication and learning the classroom. Please support my students and allow them to engage in learning and developing their means of communication so they have a voice in the classroom and in this world!
