Students love to play, build, and create. Why not allow them to do so on a daily basis without them even realizing that they are learning so many valuable skills in one makerspace. The goal of this project is to provide my wide range of ability learners, with enriching learning experiences through the use of STEM bins and a Makerspace. A Makerspace is a collaborative space where the students will come together to design, create and build items of their own creation through inquiry-based learning.
Children of this age have such a wonderful sense of curiosity and inquisitiveness that naturally leads them into exploring and learning. I want to capitalize on that by utilizing STEM bins on a daily basis. STEM is a wonderful way to encourage learning opportunities that include science, technology, engineering, and math. My curious kiddos will be able to use the fun, hands-on activities which will promote critical thinking and problem solving. These bins will be filled with inspiring materials that encourage learning through play, design, collaboration, and curiosity. Not only will this create a smooth transition for those early finishers, but also work to build on the "kind and loving family community" I establish in my classroom. I want each student to know they are loved and capable of anything. These STEM bins will help to create a sense of teamwork, help foster a positive learning environment, will allow the different leveled learners to be a part of one all-inclusive activity where the goal is the same; to work harmoniously together utilizing each individual's skill set to problem solve and create wonders. Who knows what these children will become later in life, because of the opportunity to build, create, and engage? The lasting effects of these STEM bins are to infinity and beyond!!
