  • Electronic Building Blocks

    Funded Sep 23, 2019

Thank you so much for contributing to this Donors Choose project! Our students will be so excited to use the littleBits kit as electronic building blocks. Computers are great but some students really respond to hands on materials. littleBits modules can be combined in many configurations making this a long-lasting feature of our classrom. Thanks so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hodges

  • Intro to Circuits

    Funded Aug 12, 2019

Thanks so much for funding this project! That was very exciting :D I am touched that you have invested in the education of these children and will do my best to craft juicy experiences for them. I hope to kick start an understanding of our technological society that leads to lifelong learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hodges

There are new classic activities in STEM/STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) education: bristleBots, scribbleBots, squishy circuits, paper circuits. Even kindergartners can learn simple circuits given materials suited to their physical and mental developmental levels -- think Play Doh + electronics: that's squishy circuits (see the TED talk at https://youtu.be/5M3Dow20KlM). And learning through exploration and inquiry is a valued model in education these days. Can our 5th graders come up with their own design for a scribbleBot without being given explicit instructions? Materials for a possible build will be made available so this is more like a guided inquiry. Help me bring these new classic STEAM activities to an urban school. Some materials can be reused to reach several years of learners and students will be able to take home the paper circuit popup book they create tying STEM to literacy.
