High school students are often expected to act and take notes like college students. In class, we are often so focused on the lesson and a worksheet that we forget that our students are still kids and want to have fun like kids do. Having more interactive activities in the classroom not only gets students interested in the material, but it also helps them remember how to use what was taught in class. Students are more likely to remember topics that were taught/reviewed during a game than they are to remember notes taken "last week". By allowing students to be competitive and responsible for their team, they are more likely to take charge of their learning and ask questions because more is at stake than a grade. They know that their team needs everyone to participate in order to succeed and will step up to meet and surpass the expectations placed on them. By having a buzzer system, students will know that it is a fair "game on" every time it is used and will really make it feel as if that day isn't just another day in class, but that it's "game day" and that all bets are off.
