Students need hands on activities to be able to make the connections needed to understand different math concepts. This idea of hands on activities in math is fundamental for kids that face challenges in the classroom such as second language learners, and students with learning disabilities. For this reason, making daily rotations of different workstations help students to perceive the class with opportunities to explore and work together while understanding and finding the reason why and how they can apply the knowledge they are acquiring.
By donating to make our workstations fun and meaningful , you will also help my 60 students to change the mentality about math being hard and with no meaning to their lives. Your donations will help the students to have daily rotations after being working for 20 minutes each and which students will rotate after the Sado Tech door bell will ring. It will make the transition from one workstation to the other smooth. Also, the Buzzers will help as a motivation for the student to go to the specific workstation and compete with one another in solving basic skill equations such as multiplication, division and subtractions. Students have the opportunity to discuss and justify their operations. Finally, some of the workstation are not just games but a week long project. In these projects, students have to plan, elaborate and collaborate to come up with a final product. One of the projects for my students is the design of a theme park. In this case the use of drawing, and pasting is basic to be able to present a good model. That is why printing out colorful pictures from different websites, the need of laminating and the use of pencils and glue sticks become fundamental for them in achieving their goal or project.
