  • Garden Makeover!

    Funded Apr 7, 2025

Thank you so much for funding our gardening project! The students in my gardening club are going to be so excited when they hear that our project got funded and they will soon be planting in our new raised beds. It will be a lot of hard work removing the dilapidated garden beds and installing the new ones, but the outcome will be beautiful and tasty! We look forward to digging in soon! πŸŒ·β€

  • A Fix for Fidgety Feet

    Funded Mar 4, 2025

Thank you so much for donating to my project! I have several very active learners this year who will really appreciate the kick bands for those feet that are in constant motion and they'll appreciate the wiggle seats for their calming effect. Your gift will also impact the rest of my learners who are distracted by the extra energy in the room. Thank you!”

  • Baby it's Cold Outside! So Warm Us Up!

    Funded Jan 22, 2025

Thank you for being our Heat Hero! When we arrived back at school after the three day weekend, our building was barely holding the heat and my students were arriving half frozen from the single digit temps outside!

My students are going to be so excited tomorrow when I tell them that they will be receiving hats, scarves, and gloves to make their walk to school more bearable during these cold, blustery days! Thank you for having such a kind heart!”

  • Out with the "Mold" and in with the New Carpet!

    Funded Oct 7, 2024

Thank you so much for providing our classroom with a new rug! You can imagine my shock when I arrived at school in late August to find last year's rug covered in mold due to an HVAC problem over the summer. Unfortunately, teachers are not reimbursed when something happens to our "stuff." So the kids and I truly appreciate that you came to the rescue!

We have our mini-lessons on the carpet so that the students can see the board better or small groups of students can work together. And now that the weather isn't always the best for outside play, we have recess inside where the kids love to spread out on the rug to play Legos, Marble Rally, or board games.

On our last day before Winter Break, we had a school pajama day. I made fleece blankets as a gift for my students and they all got cozy on the rug to watch a short movie at the end of the day. They were so excited because many of them cannot invite friends over for a sleepover party at home. So this was the next best thing!

Thank you so much for providing multiple opportunities for my students!”

  • New Shirts for a New School Year!

    Funded Sep 16, 2024

Thank you so much for funding my project, "New Shirts for a New School Year." My intent was to have shirts of multiple sizes available in the school office for any students who registered for school, but could not afford the cost of the uniform. This has been helpful to our students and we are truly indebted to you!

Since the shirts were received after the school year began, not all of the shirts provided by you have been distributed yet. We are keeping the extra shirts that have yet to be distributed in the office for students who arrive mid-year, or for those who have an accident at school and need a new shirt to avoid embarrassment.

Our school is located in a low-income, transient neighborhood. So we are always looking for ways to help our students feel comfortable and loved. Thank you again for helping us meet the varied needs of our students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Malone

  • Every Student Deserves to Start the Year with New Supplies!

    Funded Aug 15, 2024

Not a day goes by that my students aren't using the multitude of school supplies that you donated!

The dry erase boards, Expo markers, and erasers are used almost daily in Math class as a quick way for me to see their work and assess their understanding.

Most recently, they used their art supplies to add to the letters they wrote to the veterans who live across the street from our school at Homes for the Brave.

They were using their scissors and glue today for a science project comparing the life cycles of various animals.

And all of this is kept organized in the pencil pouches and toothbrush holders that you gave us.

I sent home some of the supplies so they have what they need for homework assignments.

Thank you so much for your generosity! We truly appreciate it!”

  • It's Much Easier to Write with Warm Hands!

    Funded Dec 6, 2023

Thank you so much for donating the hats and gloves to my students! In the past, I would pick up pairs of the cheap knit gloves near the grocery store check-out, but on those extra cold, windy days it wasn't enough to keep out the chill. Funding my project to get my kiddos the extra-warm fleece gloves made such a difference to their comfort since most of them walk to school.

The students were so excited when they heard that our boxes had arrived, but I made them wait to go "shopping" the next morning. When they arrived the next morning, I had set up the hats and gloves by sized categories so they could pick out their favorite colors in the correct size. They had so much fun shopping!

Arriving to school without frostbitten fingers and ears makes a world of difference when you're trying to learn. Thank you!!”

  • Warm Up My Students with Sweaters!

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

Thank you so much for donating the sweaters to my students! Although there was a holiday delay that impacted delivery to several of my students, they all eventually received either a sweater or a zip-up hoodie sweatshirt. Each time we received a box from the office their faces lit up with anticipation, and there was lots of excitement as we opened the boxes to see whose sweater or sweatshirt had arrived.

Not all of the children have permission to have their pictures taken, but they were all happy that you thought about their comfort. As I mentioned in our request, the temperature fluctuates wildly in our school building and we never know from one day to the next if our room is going to warm, cold, or hot! So thank you for helping us be ready for the cold days! It makes learning easier when you are comfortable. :)”

  • Homework Helper Bags

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Thank you so much for the supplies to create the Homework Helper Bags for my students. As you can tell from the photos, my kids were so excited to get supplies for their homework. There was a delay on the scissors and they kept asking "When can we take them home?" So it was a happy day indeed when we finally had everything we needed.

In years past, my kiddos would have incomplete homework because they were lacking basic school supplies at home. This year they have everything. And for the children who have dual households, I asked them to keep their Homework Helper Bag in their Backpack so it's always with them.

Thank you again for thinking of us!”

  • Headphones w/Microphones for English Language Learners

    Funded Jul 17, 2023

Thank you so much for your donation to my Headphones w/Microphones project!

Late last schoolyear, the Bridgeport school district adopted a new program called Lexia English (LE) to help our English Language Learners (ELL). It is a branch of the Lexia program that we already use to help readers grow through individualized online instruction. The difference with LE is that it listens to the students speak and helps them learn and improve their English-speaking skills.

Last year I had 6 English language learners. I was given 2 headphones w/microphones. My students had to share the headphones which meant they couldn't access the program as often as they needed. Additionally, it was unsanitary with the threat of lice!

Your donation was a game changer this year! I was able to give my 4 current ELLs headphones and I gifted 3 and 2 respectively to the other two 3rd grades. I held onto the last one for the next 3rd grader who transfers in. (Bridgeport is very transitional.) I was able to give the two headphones from last year back to our ELL teacher who needed more for the influx of ELLs in our other grade levels. It's been a win-win. Thank you!”
