Books Books and More Books!

Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you so much for helping me make my dream come to life for my class! As soon as we received the material my class was jumping with joy as I unpacked the packages to show them what was inside. Since my school does not have a school library the only books my students have access to are the ones in my classroom in the class library. By donating toward my project you helped expand my library quite a bit with brand new books! Most of the book in my library since I have not been teaching long were given to me and some is in rough shape with even pages falling out.

I think it is very important that kids have access to good quality books and I am so thrilled that I was able to share the happiness of my students when I told them they would be the first class to ever use them and that all the books were brand new! In my classroom we read a read aloud or chapter from our book everyday. About three days a week we do Silent Reading where a student can pick any book from the library and read it by themselves quietly during this time or on their free time. Once the student is done, they take an AR test to see how well they comprehended the book and then record it in our reading logs to track their progress. I have a few students who are obsessed with There Was An Old Lady books and they were thrilled when they found out there was multiple books from that series in the packages. I also have a couple boys who have began reading The Box Car Children and seem to really be intrigued in that series. I often can hear them discussing what is happening in the books they are reading to one another.

Both of the types of storage bins in this project are working out extremely well. The two clear bins are great to hold math manipulatives and our phonological awareness/frequency cards. These work very well since you can easily see what is inside and seem to be very durable. The colorful book bins also are working out great, I have added them into our class library and they each hold so many books. One reason I love them so much is that they make it easy for the students to grab the bin and sort through the books to pick out which one they might want to read next.

Once again, thank you so much for donating to my project. The items I have been able to receive are working wonderfully well and my students are so thrilled with all the books that have been added to help expand our library.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Daniel
