HandsOn Learning with Inspirational Healthy Eating
Funded Jan 17, 2024Thanks to our generous donors, our healthy plating project has had a significant impact on our students here at school. We have been using the new resources in our nutrition and wellness classes to teach students about the importance of healthy eating and proper portion control.
One specific project that we have been working on is creating a balanced meal using the materials provided. Students were tasked with selecting a variety of seeds to plant and arranging them in the order they wanted to plant to ensure an equal amount of fruit and vegetables were planted. It was great to see the students getting creative with their planting and thinking critically about the nutritional value of the foods they were choosing. We were able to incorporate researching what is a vegetable and what is a fruit using technology.
When the students first saw the materials, they were extremely excited and eager to get started. They loved the idea of seeing something grow from such small seeds and were enthusiastic about being hands on with the soil and planting of the seeds. It was a wonderful moment to see the students engaged and interested in learning more about healthy eating habits.
As for the next steps in our current classroom lesson, we will be diving deeper into the nutritional content of different foods and discussing the importance of portion control. We will continue to use the new resources to create fun and interactive activities that will help reinforce these concepts with the students. We are confident that these materials will continue to inspire and educate our students on the benefits of making healthy choices when it comes to their meals. Thank you to our donors for making this possible!”
With gratitude,
