For many of my first grade students, this year is the first academic experience. Hence, creating and providing them with meaningful learning opportunities is extremely important. Many students do not know English or how to read. Some are also not able to identify letters and their sounds. Laptops will enhance my students' academic skills as they will be able to use the web-based programs offered by district independently, thus helping them learn to read and be successful. The students will use laptops daily, independently, in the classroom to improve their reading and English skills while the teacher can use the desktop in small groups to reteach and review the skills that the students lack. The laptops will allow more students to be on the program as well as for a longer period of time.
