This professional development will help me gain techniques and practices related to Yoga and Mindfulness. Breathe for Change will help me combine mind-body wellness and social-emotional learning to support students. Through this course, I will be able to reduce day-to-day stress and increase my ability to understand/integrate mindfulness into my instruction. I will be able to enhance social-emotional learning outcomes for my students, as well as enhance my capacity to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion. I really think my students will benefit from learning more strategies to increase their focus and regulate their emotions. Why teach Yoga and Mindfulness to young children? Sitting at a desk for hours, going back home to finish daily homework assignments, studying for numerous tests can all cause the body and mind to tense up. There are also social and family challenges, anxiety, bullying and emotional situations that can also take a toll on children. Yoga, can help children lead a better lifestyle as they grow up. Here are some of the benefits of including yoga for children in school: -Reduce Stress and Anxiety -Improve Sleep -Improve Memory/Attention Span -Promotes Mindfulness -Improve Self-Control -Reduce Absences -Increase Self-Confidence and Self-Esteem -Reduce School-Violence
