The rhythm section, also known as the engine room, consists of drum set and various percussion instruments such as shakers, congas, timbales, guiro, etc. We are steadily growing our instrumentation in the engine room by adding instruments such as congas. The drum set is an extremely vital instrument in the steel band. We have two drum sets in my classroom that get utilized in all 6 steel band classes every single day. The heads on both drum sets have become very worn through countless performances and concerts. In order for us to continue to sound our best, we must replace the old heads and put new ones on. This will certainly benefit our student drum set players and benefit our entire ensemble. With class sizes always being slightly over capacity, the new engine room equipment will afford more students the opportunity to contribute in a positive way to the musical ensemble
