Having a Euphonium in a music ensemble helps every student in the room. More often than not an instrumental music teacher will ask the class to listen down to the low range of the tuba and Euphonium for blend and balance within an ensemble. When you have low ranged instruments in the room it helps each student to feel more confident about their own playing because they have the support of the lower instruments. Music teachers often talk about the pyramid of sound, similarly to how a nutritionist talks about the food pyramid. The top of the pyramid and therefore the smallest part of the balance within an ensemble belongs to the flutes and clarinets. Those instruments are less expensive than a tuba. The middle of the sound pyramid consists of trumpets and saxophones, among other instruments. The bottom of the sound pyramid and therefore the largest part of the pyramid and most critical part of the band's sound belongs to the low instruments: the tuba and Euphonium. These instruments are unfortunately the largest in size and therefore the most expensive. Without these instruments all of the other instruments in the band lack the support they need to produce a rich balanced sound. When the band ensemble sounds balanced the students can feel good about their musical performance and producing a work of quality is something that a student can be proud of for the rest of their lives.
